The mastermind behind the acclaimed animated movie “KPop Demon Hunters” has been honored with the key to Toronto, her hometown. Maggie Kang, the Korean-Canadian filmmaker, was unexpectedly presented with the key by Mayor Olivia Chow at the Departure Festival panel celebrating the film’s success.
Mayor Chow commended Kang’s achievements, highlighting her as an inspiration for future generations. Kang, accompanied by Cindy Gouveia, the president of Sheridan College, where she studied, graciously accepted the key and posed for photographs.
“KPop Demon Hunters” has broken records on Netflix as the most-watched film ever, leading to the creation of a chart-topping soundtrack and the approval for a sequel. During the panel, Kang hinted at her next project, expressing her determination to maintain the high standards set by the original film and craft a movie that resonates with her vision.
Additionally, Kang is set to receive the cultural innovator award at the Departure Honours gala later on Thursday, further recognizing her contributions to the entertainment industry.
