“Justin Trudeau & Katy Perry Surprise Visit at Montreal Eatery”

On a typical Monday evening at Le Violon, a quaint upscale eatery situated in Le Plateau in Montreal, the atmosphere suddenly shifted when a former prime minister and a popular singer unexpectedly entered the premises.

Danny Smiles, a co-owner and head chef at the restaurant, shared that the impromptu dinner date between Justin Trudeau and Katy Perry, which garnered global attention, caught him by surprise just like everyone else. Describing the buzz in the air, he mentioned, “That’s all people were talking about.”

Despite being a former finalist on Top Chef Canada and operating one of the most acclaimed restaurants in the nation, Smiles expressed concerns that the visit, although enjoyable, might overshadow the restaurant’s overall reputation. He remarked, “It took on a world of its own. I hope we’re just not known for the restaurant that Justin and Katy ate at.”

Looking ahead to his upcoming appearance in Wolfville, N.S., Smiles emphasized that the focus would be on his culinary skills and those of other Montreal chefs at the 15th annual Devour food and film festival. He commented, “It’s nice to see Montreal highlighted. We’re not too far and I feel like there’s a lot of connection with the Maritimes … we buy a lot of seafood from Nova Scotia.”

Having participated in the festival in 2017, Smiles eagerly anticipates his return for the second round. He mentioned, “Wolfville is an amazing place. It’s a beautiful community.”

During the upcoming festival from Oct. 20-26, Smiles will be part of the Montreal Night Market, leading a culinary workshop, and collaborating with four other top chefs from Montreal at the festival’s grand “degustation” dinner. The event will feature a tasting menu with wine pairings alongside screenings of food-related short films. He added, “We’re all going to be cooking together. That gets pretty wild.”

In other news, charges have been laid against three individuals following a fatal hit-and-run incident in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, and the public’s ability to file complaints about municipal politicians has been removed in the province.
