Ye Delays Marseille Show Amid Ban Backlash

Ye, the artist previously known as Kanye West, has decided to delay his upcoming performance in Marseille, France, following the announcement by French authorities of their intention to prohibit the concert. This choice by Ye comes after facing a ban from entering the U.K., where he was set to headline the Wireless Festival in July, due to backlash surrounding his history of antisemitic comments.

Expressing his thoughts on the matter, Ye stated on the social platform X that he personally opted to postpone the Marseille show indefinitely, emphasizing the need for time to comprehend the sincerity of his efforts to make amends. Originally scheduled for June 11 at Marseille’s Stade Vélodrome, the rapper’s performance was anticipated by many.

French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez affirmed his commitment to exploring all options to prevent the concert from proceeding as planned. Marseille Mayor Benoît Payan had earlier opposed Ye’s visit to the city, citing Marseille’s rich multicultural heritage and denouncing any promotion of hatred or Nazism within the community.

Ye has faced severe criticism for his antisemitic statements and public expressions of admiration for Adolf Hitler. Notably, he released a song titled “Heil Hitler” and promoted a swastika T-shirt on his website in the past, leading to the cancellation of his visa in Australia. In a bid to address the controversy, the 48-year-old musician issued a public apology in the Wall Street Journal earlier this year, attributing his actions to a manic episode driven by his bipolar disorder.

In his recent message on X, Ye took full responsibility for his actions while expressing his desire not to involve his fans in the ongoing situation. He emphasized the importance of his supporters and expressed anticipation for future performances, concluding with optimism for the future.
