Grammy award-winning artist Chappell Roan has responded to allegations made by Brazilian-Italian footballer Jorginho regarding an incident involving his 11-year-old stepdaughter and a security guard. Jorginho, also known as Jorginho Frello, claimed that his family encountered the singer at a hotel in Sao Paulo where they were all staying. The footballer explained that his daughter recognized Roan during breakfast and simply wanted to confirm her identity, prompting a security guard to approach them aggressively.
In a detailed Instagram post in both Portuguese and English, Jorginho, whose wife is Catherine Harding and daughter with British actor Jude Law, expressed his disappointment in the way the security guard handled the situation. He mentioned that Roan did not deserve the admiration of her fans due to the incident.
Roan, on the other hand, took to Instagram to address the matter, clarifying that the security guard was not under her employ and that she was unaware of the encounter with the mother and child. She emphasized the unfairness of assuming ill intentions without cause and expressed sadness if the family felt uncomfortable, stating that she harbors no animosity towards her fans or children.
The controversy garnered attention from Rio’s new mayor, Eduardo Cavaliere, who commented on the situation by mentioning that Roan would not perform on Copacabana Beach during his tenure, in contrast to other international stars. He also announced that Jorginho’s daughter would be a special guest at an upcoming concert featuring Colombian superstar Shakira on Rio’s beaches.
