U.S. President Donald Trump has officially revised the Section 232 national security tariffs on specific aluminum, steel, and copper imports, as announced by the White House on Monday. The adjustments, set to take effect on June 8, will see a reduction in tariffs on various steel and aluminum derivative products from 25% to 15%. This reduction will apply to products such as certain agricultural machinery and residential heating, air conditioning, and ventilation equipment.

The White House disclosed that mobile industrial equipment like bulldozers and forklifts will now be subject to a 15% tariff if imported from trade deal countries eligible for such treatment. Furthermore, foreign companies can qualify for a 10% tariff if a minimum of 85% of their capital equipment comprises U.S. melted and poured or smelted and cast steel or aluminum by weight.

Under the revised proclamation, two new categories of steel and aluminum derivative import products, namely steel racks and aluminum lithographic plates, will face 25% duties. These tariff adjustments will apply to goods imported or withdrawn from bonded warehouses after 12:01 a.m. ET on June 8. The changes are slated to remain effective until December 31, 2027, with the aim of stimulating immediate investments to enhance the country’s industrial foundation.
