Offset, a former member of the Migos hip-hop group, was shot outside a casino in Florida. A spokesperson confirmed that Offset, previously married to Cardi B, is in stable condition at a hospital following the incident on Monday night. Although his exact condition remains unknown, police reassured that his injuries were not life-threatening.
Offset’s cousin Takeoff, also a member of Migos, tragically lost his life in a shooting over three years ago at a bowling alley in Houston. The recent shooting involving Offset occurred after a confrontation outside the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, just north of Miami, according to the police. While one person sustained injuries in the incident, the victim’s identity was not disclosed.
Law enforcement detained two individuals at the scene, including rapper Lil Tjay, known as Tione Jayden Merritt. Lil Tjay was charged with disorderly conduct and operating a vehicle without a valid license. His lawyer clarified that he was not in possession of a gun and faced no weapon-related charges. Lil Tjay posted bail and was expected to be released on Tuesday afternoon.
The second detained person at the site has not faced charges yet, and authorities are actively investigating to identify others involved in the altercation. Offset, whose real name is Kiari Kendrell Cephus, rose to fame as part of Migos, an Atlanta-based trio renowned for their distinctive triplet flow and influence on trap music.
Migos gained widespread acclaim with hits like “Versace” in 2013 and chart-topping singles such as “Bad and Boujee,” “Stir Fry,” “Narcos,” and “T-Shirt.” The group released four successful albums before the tragic loss of Takeoff. Offset and Cardi B tied the knot secretly in 2017 but later announced their divorce in 2024, sharing three children.
The remaining Migos member, Quavo, organized an anti-gun violence summit following Takeoff’s death, highlighting the impact of fatal shootings involving hip-hop figures like Nipsey Hussle, Pop Smoke, PnB Rock, and Young Dolph. Offset pursued a solo career before the untimely demise of Takeoff, showcasing his unique style and lyrical finesse in albums like “Father of Four,” “Set It Off,” and “Kiari.”
Offset expressed that “Set It Off” symbolized freedom as a solo artist, emphasizing his independence and authenticity in his music. He described “Kiari” as a rebellious album, representing his true self and artistic rebellion against conforming to external expectations.
