“Nostalgia Alert: Frozen Juice Concentrate Back in Canadian Homes”

Share

After a period of absence, frozen juice concentrate is making a comeback in Canadian households, with one of the country’s major retailers, Loblaw, announcing the reintroduction of the product under its No Name brand. The upcoming selection will feature White Lemonade, Pink Lemonade, Limeade, Grape Punch, Fruit Punch, and Berry Punch, set to hit shelves before the end of June, as confirmed by Loblaw spokesperson Rachel Siekanowicz.

This revival follows the discontinuation of Coca-Cola’s Minute Maid frozen juice line, leaving Loblaw as a key player returning to the market void. While other Canadian frozen juice brands like Old South had exited due to diminishing demand, Loblaw is responding to what it perceives as continued consumer interest in frozen juice products.

Despite the absence of a Canadian producer for frozen juice concentrate, Loblaw has sourced alternatives to fulfill the imminent demand, as existing suppliers like Coca-Cola ceased production. The company is gearing up to introduce the new No Name frozen juice at varying prices depending on the store, with an anticipated starting price of around $2.25 for a 283-milliliter pack.

Moreover, other retailers, such as Metro, are also exploring options to reintroduce frozen concentrate offerings in response to market shifts. While details remain scarce, there are hints of a potential resurgence in domestic frozen juice production, hinting at a brighter future for this nostalgic product in Canadian households, including its traditional use in popular holiday cocktails like “slush.”
