A large great white shark was discovered dead on a beach near Pictou in northern Nova Scotia, leaving researchers puzzled about the cause of its demise. The 580-kilogram male shark’s body was found last Friday, prompting a team from the Marine Animal Response Society to conduct a necropsy over the weekend.
Dr. Laura Bourque from the Canadian Wildlife Health Co-operative in P.E.I. reported that no clear reason for the shark’s death was immediately evident, indicating that further tests are necessary to determine the exact cause.
Conservation efforts have played a crucial role in the recovery of the great white shark population after a significant decline in the 1970s and 1980s. Additionally, experts suggest that rising ocean temperatures due to climate change have facilitated the northward migration of certain marine species.
