Three individuals were stabbed along the Yaletown seawall in Vancouver on Friday morning, with the female suspect still at large, according to Vancouver police. The stabbings near David Lam Park were reported around 7:30 a.m. PT. The victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were hospitalized, as confirmed by Vancouver Police Department spokesperson Const. Tania Visintin. Police believe the stabbings were separate incidents occurring possibly minutes apart, and were unprovoked and random in nature, as stated by Visintin to CBC News.
The suspect is described as an Indigenous woman in her late 20s or early 30s, with long black hair in a ponytail and a slim build. She was wearing a large, black leather jacket, tight pants, and a leopard-print shirt or scarf. Law enforcement officers are currently searching the area for surveillance footage to obtain a clearer image of the suspect, according to Visintin.
Visintin acknowledged the understandable concern among seawall users, emphasizing the disturbing nature of the incident for both visitors and local residents. While the physical injuries are expected to heal, the psychological impact of a random attack can be severe, she added. Visintin urged individuals with any information or video recordings to come forward and assist the authorities in their investigation.
