Montreal’s Felix Auger-Aliassime clinched victory at the European Open in Belgium on Sunday, adding another title to his name. The 25-year-old Canadian defeated Jiri Lehecka of the Czech Republic 7-6(2), 6-6(7), 6-2 to secure the hard-court ATP 250 tournament in Brussels. Auger-Aliassime, seeded second at the event, showcased an impressive performance with 17 aces during the two-hour 34-minute match, winning 79% of his first-serve points.
Despite losing the second set, Auger-Aliassime maintained control by converting two out of six break-point opportunities and denying Lehecka any break-point chances. Reflecting on the intense final, Auger-Aliassime expressed satisfaction with the outcome, stating, “It’s the final, so we put everything on the line. I feel like we were both extremely focused from the beginning. It was a high level for two sets, then you don’t know how things can go. But I’m obviously glad.”
This victory marks Auger-Aliassime’s eighth career title and his third of the year, following earlier triumphs in Montpellier, France, and Adelaide, Australia, at the start of 2025. With this win, Auger-Aliassime ties with Milos Raonic for the most singles titles among Canadian male players in the Open era. Currently ranked 13th in the world, he has dropped from his previous position at number six in November 2022.
