Legendary Entertainment and Scholastic Entertainment have partnered to bring the beloved children’s book series, “The Magic School Bus,” to life on the big screen. Elizabeth Banks is set to star as the adventurous Ms. Frizzle in this live-action adaptation. Banks will not only act as the iconic science teacher but also produce the film alongside director Rob Letterman, known for “Detective Pikachu.”
Celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, “The Magic School Bus” has sold over 90 million books worldwide. Written by Joanna Cole and illustrated by Bruce Degen, the series follows Ms. Frizzle as she takes her students on magical field trips aboard a shape-shifting school bus, all aimed at making science enjoyable.
The franchise’s popularity has soared since its debut in 1986, with various adaptations across television and digital platforms. The most notable being the PBS animated series that aired from 1994 to 1997, starring Lily Tomlin as Ms. Frizzle. Netflix also attempted a reboot titled “The Magic School Bus Rides Again,” featuring Tomlin as Ms. Frizzle and Kate McKinnon as her younger sister.
Elizabeth Banks had previously been associated with a 2020 version of the movie under Universal Pictures, which later transitioned to Legendary Entertainment. Now, she is set to bring Ms. Frizzle to life once again in this exciting new project.
