Dolly Parton’s journey from humble beginnings to fame has not only inspired her music but also led to the creation of a theme park, a podcast, and now a Broadway musical set to debut later this year. Titled “Dolly: A True Original Musical,” the show promises an authentic depiction of Parton’s life through her own words and the songs that have shaped her. Parton, aged 80, emphasized that the musical will delve into her real experiences, losses, loves, and personal growth.
Featuring a mix of new songs created for the production and some of Parton’s classic hits like “I Will Always Love You,” “Jolene,” “Coat of Many Colors,” and “9 to 5,” the musical is scheduled to kick off in New York City on December 7 and run until November 21, 2027. Parton, a legendary artist with a career spanning nearly seven decades, expressed her excitement, calling the Broadway debut a dream come true.
The musical premiered in Nashville last summer at the Fisher Center for the Performing Arts, drawing sold-out crowds during its six-week run. Director Bartlett Sher highlighted the profound connection audiences feel with Parton, noting how she has consistently inspired and brought joy to people worldwide. The show aims to present Parton’s untold story in a raw and authentic manner, going beyond the glitz and glamour often associated with her image.
Tickets for the Broadway production will be available to the public starting on Friday, July 10. Parton’s musical journey, encapsulating her roots and resilience, is set to captivate audiences with a heartfelt portrayal of the iconic artist’s life story.
