Exactly 100 days from Wednesday, the 2026 Winter Olympics in northern Italy will commence with the opening ceremony at the iconic San Siro Stadium in Milan.
Here’s a glance at 10 Canadian athletes to monitor in the upcoming months as they participate in worldwide competitions and hone their skills for a shot at Olympic glory this February.
Will Dandjinou (short track speed skating): Canada dominated short track speed skating last season, securing 37 medals, including 21 gold, across six World Tour stops to clinch the team title. Dandjinou, standing at six-foot-three, emerged as a standout, winning eight individual races on the World Tour, claiming his first overall title, and earning four medals at the world championships, including a gold in the 1,500 meters. As he prepares for his Olympic debut, Dandjinou has already won four out of six solo events this season.
The 6’3″ reigning short track crystal globe champion from Montreal aims to leverage his stature for a shot at the Olympic podium in 2026.
Rachel Homan (curling): Homan’s journey at the Olympics has been challenging, with disappointments in previous events. However, her team is a favorite for the women’s gold in Milan after consecutive world championship wins in 2024 and 2025. They have dominated the season, winning both Grand Slam titles and are set to compete in the Canadian Olympic trials next month in Halifax.
