The search for a missing aircraft that was en route from Canada’s East Coast to Greenland has progressed into its second day. Naviair, a Danish state-owned air traffic service provider, received a notification on Saturday around 4 p.m. local time that a single-engine plane had disappeared.

Confirming the details on Sunday, Naviair disclosed that the missing aircraft is registered under an American company and had departed from Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador, with a sole occupant. The search efforts resumed on Sunday primarily by sea, as the aerial search was hindered by low-lying clouds. The search had been halted on Saturday night due to challenging weather conditions and poor visibility.

The search teams are currently focusing their efforts on the Sermitsiaq mountain region, located approximately 15 kilometers northeast of Nuuk, the capital of Greenland. Happy Valley-Goose Bay, situated in central Labrador, is roughly 850 kilometers northwest of St. John’s, Newfoundland. The Labrador Sea separates Labrador from Greenland.
