Grab your favorite summer drink and head to the waterfront because a Canadian version of the popular reality show, Summer House, is in the works, shifting the setting from the Hamptons to Ontario’s scenic cottage country.
Hayu, NBCUniversal’s reality streaming platform, along with B.C.-based Lark Productions, have announced the commencement of production for Summer House Canada in the picturesque Muskoka region. This marks the first international adaptation of the hit reality series.
Hendrik McDermott, managing director of international DTC at NBCUniversal, expressed excitement about Muskoka being the ideal Canadian backdrop to launch Summer House Canada and continue the franchise’s success.
Similar to its American counterpart, Summer House Canada will follow a group of friends who spend weekends at a shared cottage, where relationships and drama unfold.
Erin Haskett, president and executive producer at Lark Productions, highlighted the global appeal of the Summer House franchise, known for its genuine friendships, vibrant personalities, and memorable moments shared during a summer retreat.
Canada has seen the emergence of other reality TV adaptations, such as Canada Shore and the upcoming return of Big Brother Canada, indicating a growing trend in Canadian reality television offerings.
The announcement of Summer House Canada comes shortly after the U.S. version received its first Emmy nomination for best unstructured reality program after 10 successful seasons.
The Canadian rendition of the show will consist of 10 episodes exclusively available for streaming on Hayu. Casting details will be revealed in the upcoming months, with the series slated to debut in 2027.
