The 2026 Primetime Emmy Awards nominations were announced today, with HBO leading the pack thanks to the success of their show “The Pitt.” The medical drama starring Noah Wyle received 25 nominations, while HBO’s “Hacks” followed closely with 24 nods. “Hacks” also set a new record for the most Emmy nominations for a comedy in its final season, surpassing the previous record held by “Schitt’s Creek.”
Apple TV also made a mark with its series “Widow’s Bay,” a dark comedy that secured 19 nominations, and “Pluribus,” a post-apocalyptic show that received 16 nominations.
One notable absence from the Emmy nominations was “Heated Rivalry,” a Canadian show that aired on Crave. Due to being solely produced and financed by Canadian companies, it did not meet the Primetime Emmys’ requirements for foreign productions. However, Connor Storrie, a co-lead on the show, received a nomination for his appearance on “Saturday Night Live.”
The nominations were announced by previous Emmy winners Liza Colón-Zayas and Jeff Hiller at the Wolf Theatre in Los Angeles. The awards ceremony is scheduled for September 14 and will be hosted by Mariska Hargitay from “Law & Order: SVU,” making her the first woman to host the show in 15 years.
This year, the Emmys will introduce a new “legacy award” to honor programs that have had a lasting impact on audiences and remain relevant to society, culture, and the industry. It is the first new Emmy category in almost two decades.
