Actor Daveigh Chase, recognized as the voice behind Lilo in the popular Disney movie Lilo & Stitch, passed away at the age of 35 this week. The demise occurred in a Los Angeles hospital due to complications arising from meningitis and a blood infection, as confirmed by her father, John David Schwallier. Reports suggest that Chase was living with her boyfriend near the hospital where she was being treated before her passing.
Apart from her notable role in the 2002 film Lilo & Stitch, she lent her voice to various spinoffs of the movie and played the lead character’s English voice in the acclaimed animated film Spirited Away by Hayao Miyzaki. Hailing from Las Vegas, Chase featured in numerous films and TV shows, including Donnie Darko in 2001 and The Ring in 2002, where she portrayed the character of Samara opposite Naomi Watts.
Chase received accolades for her work, winning the 2002 Annie Award for best young artist for her performance in Lilo & Stitch and the 2003 MTV Movie Award for best villain for her role in The Ring. She also appeared in the HBO series Big Love and made guest appearances in various TV shows. Her final on-screen appearance was in the 2016 movie American Romance.
Before her demise, Chase’s boyfriend initiated a GoFundMe campaign to provide financial support during her hospitalization. He described her challenging past and their quest for safety and happiness together, emphasizing her desire for a secure and joyful living environment. The campaign raised over $4,000, with a significant portion donated within the first day following her death.
