A 1-year-old girl who was the subject of an Amber Alert has been found safe, but authorities are now searching for her father in connection with a deadly shooting in Brampton, Ontario. The Ontario Provincial Police issued the alert at approximately 5 p.m., which was later rescinded about two hours later.
Constable Mandeep Khatra confirmed that the child had been located unharmed by the police and was safely handed over to family members. The whereabouts of the child were not disclosed, but the girl’s 38-year-old father, who allegedly abducted her, is now wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of a woman earlier that day.
Police responded to a call at a plaza parking lot near Queen Street E. and Airport Road just before 2 p.m., where a woman was found dead. The suspect fled the scene in a vehicle with the child in the backseat.
The suspect, described as 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing 175 pounds, with a slim build, clean-shaven, short brown hair, and hazel eyes, was last seen wearing a dark hoodie and blue jeans, carrying a black crossbody bag. The vehicle he is driving is a black 2024 Nissan Kicks with Quebec license plate FRV4520.
Authorities believe the suspect has left the Niagara Region, where residents in the Crystal Beach area of Fort Erie were advised to secure their homes. The suspect is considered armed and dangerous, and the public is urged to contact 911 immediately if spotted. Police are also asking anyone with information or surveillance footage from the area to come forward.
