Prince Edward Island is set to host its largest television production ever this summer. The province is investing $5 million through a rebate for the adaptation of Canadian author Carley Fortune’s popular romance novel, “This Summer Will Be Different,” into a 10-episode series. The filming will take place in P.E.I. and Toronto.
During the announcement in Victoria, Robin Neinstein, the director of production management at Netflix Canada, emphasized the importance of filming on the Island, stating that P.E.I. is not just a backdrop in the book but a significant character within the story.
The production will create job opportunities, including 75 positions for roles like production assistants, painters, and caterers. Rob Riselli, the executive director of Film P.E.I., highlighted that the project will showcase the beauty of the Island and potentially attract more productions to the region.
Premier Rob Lantz expressed excitement about the economic and cultural benefits the production will bring to Prince Edward Island. The filming of “This Summer Will Be Different” in P.E.I. is seen as an investment in the province’s arts and culture industry, elevating its presence on the global stage.
Netflix’s adaptation of the novel was briefly questioned by the Opposition in May, but Premier Lantz reassured that the project is on track and emphasized the positive impact it will have on the province. The exact release date of the series for Netflix viewers is yet to be announced.
