The Penticton Vees of the Western Hockey League were preparing for their upcoming game against the Wenatchee Wild, while also considering the excitement around the Toronto Blue Jays in the World Series. Riley Pollock, the team’s communications director, acknowledged the dilemma of choosing between hockey and baseball for fans.

To embrace the baseball fever, the Penticton Vees and Kelowna Rockets in the B.C. Interior are planning to screen the World Series games at their arenas before their own matches. The Vees will open the South Okanagan Events Centre early to broadcast the game, aiming to attract fans to both sports events.

Meanwhile, the Vancouver Canadians, a minor league farm team of the Blue Jays, organized an exclusive viewing party for season ticket holders and loyal supporters. They will also host a public watch party for game four at Hero’s Welcome pub.

In light of the ongoing strike affecting liquor distribution in British Columbia, the hospitality industry anticipates a boost in sales during the World Series games. Ian Tostenson, President of the British Columbia Restaurant and Foodservices Association, noted the positive impact of sports events on businesses despite the challenges posed by the strike.

Tostenson emphasized the communal aspect of sports championships, highlighting the importance of shared experiences for fans. While the baseball excitement has yet to fully grip West Coast sports enthusiasts, establishments are optimistic about increased revenue during the World Series games.
