Britney Spears has recently admitted herself into a substance abuse treatment facility, following her arrest for suspected driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. A spokesperson for Spears confirmed that the 44-year-old singer voluntarily sought treatment. The incident occurred on March 5, when California Highway Patrol officers responded to reports of a BMW driving recklessly on U.S. 101 in Ventura County near the Los Angeles County border. After undergoing field sobriety tests, Spears was taken into custody on charges of driving under the influence of a mix of alcohol and drugs. She was subsequently released from jail a few hours later.
The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office is currently reviewing the case, with a decision on potential charges expected before the court date scheduled for May 4. A representative expressed strong disapproval of Spears’ actions, emphasizing the necessity for significant changes in her life.
Having largely stepped back from her music career, Spears has not embarked on a tour in almost eight years and has not released a new album in nearly a decade. In 2021, she regained control of her personal and financial affairs when a conservatorship, in place for nearly 14 years, was terminated. Subsequently, she published a successful memoir titled “The Woman in Me” two years later.
The conservatorship was established following Spears’ stay at a rehab center in California in 2007.
