Dan Levy found it difficult to express his feelings as he returned to the Ontario town where the popular series “Schitt’s Creek” was filmed, marking his first visit since the show concluded. Emotionally moved, Levy removed his distinctive black glasses to wipe away tears while standing in front of the former Rose Apothecary, the boutique his character David established in Season 3.
Reflecting on his time in Goodwood, Ontario, northeast of Toronto, during an extended interview with CBS’s “Sunday Morning,” Levy opened up about his latest project, “Big Mistakes,” his artistic process, and his connections to Toronto. However, the conversation also turned to his co-star and close friend, Catherine O’Hara, who tragically passed away in January at the age of 71.
O’Hara, a renowned Canadian comedic talent, succumbed to a blood clot in her lung, a condition she had kept private while battling cancer. Her unexpected death sent shockwaves through Hollywood and her devoted fan base, earned through iconic roles in “Home Alone,” “Beetlejuice,” “Best in Show,” and notably, “Schitt’s Creek,” where she portrayed the dramatic Moira Rose.
During the interview, Levy shared his emotional journey walking through the picturesque setting of “Schitt’s Creek” from 2015 to 2020. When questioned about the possibility of a sequel, Levy expressed hesitation, stating, “No, not now. You can’t.” While contemplating a reboot before O’Hara’s passing, he now cherishes the memories of the show and the indelible mark Moira left on viewers.
Recalling his experiences working alongside O’Hara, Levy reminisced about the unforgettable moments shared on set, including humorous disagreements over cooking techniques and memorable commercials. He praised O’Hara’s presence, acknowledging the laughter and authenticity she brought to their scenes.
“Schitt’s Creek,” a global phenomenon co-created by Levy and his father, Eugene Levy, dominated award shows throughout its tenure. Levy’s upcoming Netflix sitcom, “Big Mistakes,” is set to premiere on April 9. Despite potential comparisons to the success of “Schitt’s Creek,” Levy remains focused on creating content that brings personal fulfillment.
As Levy navigates his post-“Schitt’s Creek” endeavors, he embraces the legacy of the show while honoring the profound impact of his collaboration with O’Hara.
