Carley Fortune’s popular romance novel, “This Summer Will Be Different,” is set to be adapted into a 10-episode series by Netflix Canada. The story follows Lucy on a summer trip to Prince Edward Island where she encounters Felix, sparking a romantic connection despite the complication that he is her best friend Bridget’s younger brother. As their paths continue to cross during Lucy’s visits to P.E.I., she struggles to resist the growing attraction between them.
The upcoming TV adaptation, which will be filmed in Toronto and on Prince Edward Island, aims to capture the essence of the book’s picturesque settings. Carley Fortune, a Toronto-based writer and journalist, expressed her excitement about bringing the love story to life on screen, drawing inspiration from her own experiences on the island and the enduring bonds formed there.
Fortune’s portfolio includes other novels such as “One Golden Summer,” “Every Summer After,” and “Meet Me at the Lake,” with her latest book, “Our Perfect Storm,” scheduled for publication on May 5. “Every Summer After” is currently being transformed into a television series titled “Every Year After” for Amazon Prime Video, while “Meet Me at the Lake” has been picked up for a film adaptation by Netflix and Archewell Productions, owned by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Additionally, “Meet Me at the Lake” made history as the first romance title to compete in Canada Reads, championed in 2024 by Mirian Njoh. The upcoming adaptation of “This Summer Will Be Different” adds to Carley Fortune’s growing success in bringing her captivating stories to new audiences through various platforms.
