“Netflix Announces ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ Sequel”

Netflix has officially announced the development of a sequel to the record-breaking film “KPop Demon Hunters.” The upcoming installment will continue the collaboration between Netflix and co-directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans under a new exclusive multi-year deal for animation.

Maggie Kang, a Korean filmmaker from Toronto, expressed her pride in the audience’s enthusiasm for more content from the Korean narrative and characters. The sequel will further explore the world created in the original musical film, which follows the K-pop girl trio Huntrix as they juggle their music career with their hidden roles as demon hunters. The film’s hit song “Golden” reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The first installment of “KPop Demon Hunters” received critical acclaim and multiple awards, including recognition at the Critics Choice Awards and the Golden Globes. It has also secured two Oscar nominations. Additionally, “Golden” earned a Grammy for best song written for visual media, marking a historic win for K-pop music.

Netflix reported impressive viewership numbers for the film, with 482 million views and 32 million views for its lyric videos in a six-month period. The sequel’s co-director, Chris Appelhans, emphasized the importance of having a clear creative direction for the new project to resonate with audiences and maintain the success of the franchise.
