While the film was fictional, the scientific basis behind the climate shift was real. Scientists are now expressing growing concerns about the slowing of the AMOC, its potential tipping point, and the worldwide repercussions.

The AMOC, a critical component of the global ocean currents system, acts as a conveyor belt transporting warm surface water to the North Atlantic, where it sinks, circulates southward, and eventually resurfaces.
