Halifax Mooseheads forward Alec Nasreddine has been well aware since his youth that pursuing a career in professional hockey comes with its share of challenges. “It’s a demanding journey,” expressed the 18-year-old player. “Being frequently away from home, although it’s a dream job, requires significant sacrifices.”
Learning the ropes from his father, Alain Nasreddine, who enjoyed a 15-season professional hockey career spanning various teams like the Chicago Blackhawks, Montreal Canadiens, New York Islanders, and Pittsburgh Penguins, Alec has been exposed to the realities of the sport from an early age. Born in Pittsburgh in 2007, Alec has experienced living in different places due to his father’s coaching career, including New Jersey and Texas. Presently, Alain Nasreddine serves as an assistant coach for the NHL’s Dallas Stars.
Growing up in a hockey-centric environment, Alec Nasreddine witnessed firsthand the unwavering dedication and commitment required for success in the sport, encompassing rigorous training regimens and dietary discipline. While Alec aspires to make a mark in the NHL, he acknowledges that his path to professional hockey will not mirror his father’s arduous journey to the top.
Alain Nasreddine, a former QMJHL player who excelled as a defenseman, recollects his early days in the league, reminiscing about the physical nature of the game and the importance of fighting as a young player trying to establish himself. However, he acknowledges that the game has evolved, with stricter penalties significantly reducing fighting in today’s QMJHL, thereby shaping a different path for Alec Nasreddine.
Despite facing limited playing time with the Mooseheads this season, Alec Nasreddine remains determined to prove his mettle and earn his place on the ice. Encouraged by his father’s advice to relentlessly focus on self-improvement and maintain a strong work ethic on and off the ice, Alec is driven to excel despite the challenges he encounters.
Mooseheads general manager Cam Russell, who once played alongside Alain Nasreddine, values players like Alec for their character and contributions to the team beyond scoring goals. He emphasizes the importance of maintaining a positive attitude and supporting teammates, even in the face of adversity, drawing from his own experiences as a player.
Alain Nasreddine, reflecting on his professional hockey career, emphasizes the diverse paths individuals take to reach the NHL, advising his son to persevere through challenges and give his all to achieve his aspirations. Alec, fueled by his father’s unwavering belief in him, remains steadfast on his journey, embodying resilience and determination as he continues to pursue his hockey dreams.
