Prime Minister Mark Carney is set to embark on a nine-day journey across Malaysia, Singapore, and South Korea by the end of this month to participate in two major international summits. Carney’s agenda includes attending the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Summit in Kuala Lumpur, where discussions on trade matters with Malaysia’s prime minister are on the schedule. Following this summit, the Prime Minister will engage with Singapore’s prime minister and local business figures to address the elimination of trade barriers and the promotion of global capital investment.

In South Korea, Carney will participate in a gathering of economic leaders from the Asia-Pacific region in Gyeongju. In addition, he intends to visit the shipyard managed by Hanwha Ocean during his time in South Korea, as Hanwha Ocean is one of the two final contenders for a significant contract to construct new Canadian submarines. The trip is slated to take place from October 24 to November 1.
