The Vancouver expansion team of the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) has secured the signing of Michelle Karvinen, a four-time Olympian. Karvinen, aged 35, was chosen by Vancouver in the first round of the PWHL entry draft held in June, where she was picked seventh overall.
Before joining PWHL Vancouver, Karvinen had a notable career playing for the University of North Dakota and teams in Finland’s Auroraliiga, Switzerland’s SWHL, and Russia’s ZhHL. Originating from Rodovre, Denmark, she represents Finland internationally and has achieved three Olympic bronze medals with the national team.
Cara Gardner Morey, the general manager of Vancouver, praised Karvinen in a press release, highlighting her as a seasoned winner and a veteran of the sport with extensive experience. PWHL Vancouver is set to commence its inaugural season on November 21, with a home game against fellow expansion team PWHL Seattle.
