American rapper and singer-songwriter MGK electrified the crowd at Winnipeg’s Princess Auto Stadium with his performance during the halftime show of the Grey Cup on Sunday. Backed by a live band and CFL cheerleaders, the artist, formerly known as Machine Gun Kelly, captivated the audience with a medley of his popular songs, including “Don’t Wait Run Fast” from his latest album released earlier this year.

The spectators greeted MGK by lighting up their phones, creating a dazzling sea of lights in the stadium. Sporting a football jersey, the artist made a stylish statement, without showing allegiance to either the Saskatchewan Roughriders or Montreal Alouettes, the teams competing in the game. MGK expressed gratitude to the crowd for the opportunity to perform during the 112th championship game.

Before the game commenced, Canadian rock band Our Lady Peace delivered a pre-show performance, treating the audience to three songs. Manitoba country singer Catie St. Germain sang the national anthem. Prime Minister Mark Carney was also present at the event in Winnipeg, conducting the coin toss at center field to determine the team with the first move, amidst mixed reactions from the crowd, including some boos and colorful language.

Fans, many sporting Rider green attire, enjoyed a vibrant tailgate party outside the stadium before the game. In a thrilling finale, the Saskatchewan Roughriders clinched their first Grey Cup victory in 12 years by defeating the Montreal Alouettes with a score of 25-17. Celebratory green confetti filled the air at Princess Auto Stadium, as jubilant green-and-white supporters spilled onto the streets. This triumph marked the Roughriders’ fifth Grey Cup win and their first since securing the title in 2013 in Regina.
