“Heated Rivalry” Wins Prestigious Peabody Award

The Canadian hockey-themed series “Heated Rivalry” has been recognized with a prestigious Peabody Award. This production, a collaboration between Crave, Bell Media, and distributed by HBO Max in the United States, garnered unexpected success upon its release in November 2025. It was recently announced as one of the 11 winning television programs in the entertainment category by the Peabody Awards jurors.

In a press release, the jurors lauded “Heated Rivalry” for its adept handling of intricate themes surrounding sexuality and emotional bonds, which resonated with audiences and championed a healthy representation of masculinity. The show, conceived by Montreal filmmaker Jacob Tierney and adapted from novels by Halifax writer Rachel Reid, delves into the clandestine romantic relationship between fictional professional hockey players Shane Hollander (portrayed by Hudson Williams) and Ilya Rozanov (played by Connor Storrie).

Director Jacob Tierney, in conjunction with the show’s official Instagram account, expressed gratitude for the recognition, emphasizing the complexities and nuances of the storyline. Author Rachel Reid also celebrated the achievement, expressing pride in the collaborative effort that brought the series to life.

The Directors Guild of Canada in Ontario also joined in the commendations, applauding the dedication and talent of the individuals involved in the creation of “Heated Rivalry.” The winners of the 86th Annual Peabody Awards are set to be honored at a ceremony in Los Angeles on May 31.
