Global fashion icons gathered with the public on Friday to pay their respects at the funeral service of legendary designer Valentino in Rome, held at the central Basilica di Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri. Following a two-day public viewing at the Valentino Foundation’s headquarters in Rome, the funeral served as the final tribute to the renowned designer.
Notable figures from the fashion industry, including Tom Ford, Donatella Versace, and Anna Wintour, as well as Hollywood celebrities like Anne Hathaway, attended the service. Fans and admirers also congregated outside the church, many dressed in red or carrying red accessories as a nod to Valentino’s signature color.
Valentino Garavani, who passed away at 93 in his Rome residence, had a devoted following among royals, first ladies, and celebrities such as Jackie Kennedy Onassis, Queen Rania of Jordan, and Julia Roberts. Known as the “last emperor” of Italian fashion, Valentino received tributes from hundreds of individuals during the public viewing.
Throughout his career, Valentino’s exquisite gowns graced numerous prestigious events, including the Academy Awards. Fondly remembered by his longtime partner Giancarlo Giammetti, who expressed gratitude for Valentino’s influence on beauty and their shared journey in life.
