A search of Jeffrey Epstein’s estate documents, released by U.S. Republicans, reveals over 1,500 mentions of Donald Trump. However, most of these references do not provide new information linking Epstein to the current U.S. president. The documents, comprising 20,000 pages, include emails, depositions, book excerpts, and news clippings.
Using the Google application Pinpoint for analysis, CBC News found that Trump’s name appears frequently in reports from 2016 onwards, particularly related to his initial presidential campaign and early White House tenure. Notably, Trump is referenced in social media posts regarding the 2016 Brexit referendum and in his 2017 public financial disclosure report attached to an email exchange with author Michael Wolff.
Among the released emails, one from Epstein to Wolff in January 2019 suggested Trump had knowledge of Epstein’s activities, although the specifics were not disclosed. Democrats highlighted this email as raising concerns about Trump’s association with Epstein. Meanwhile, other emails from Republicans indicated Epstein’s attempt to position himself as a source of insight on Trump to the Kremlin.
Epstein and Trump were acquaintances in the 1990s but reportedly fell out in the early 2000s before Epstein faced allegations of sexual misconduct with minors. Epstein’s death in 2019, while facing charges of child sex trafficking, was ruled a suicide. Notably, individuals from Trump’s camp have advocated for transparency in the Epstein case, with some now holding prominent roles in Trump’s administration.
