Catherine O’Hara, a beloved actress known for her memorable roles in TV shows and movies, passed away at the age of 71 due to a pulmonary embolism, as reported by the Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s Office. The medical report also mentioned that she had underlying rectal cancer.
The certificate signed by her oncologist revealed that he had been treating O’Hara since March of the previous year and last saw her on January 27 before she passed away at a hospital in Santa Monica, California.
Throughout her career, O’Hara made a lasting impact with her performances in various iconic projects such as the sketch-comedy series “SCTV,” the films “Beetlejuice” and “Home Alone,” and the popular sitcom “Schitt’s Creek,” where she won an Emmy Award.
Her journey in the entertainment industry began when she was working as a waitress at Second City Theatre in Toronto. Inspired by the performers she saw on stage, O’Hara decided to pursue acting herself.
Joining the theater’s touring company, she eventually became a cast member of “SCTV,” collaborating with other Canadian comedy legends like Eugene Levy, John Candy, and Martin Short.
