“AI Actress Tilly Norwood Sparks Hollywood Controversy”

A virtual character named Tilly Norwood, created by an AI production company called Particle6, has stirred controversy within the entertainment industry. Despite sparking interest from various entertainment companies, the debut of this AI “actress” has faced backlash from real Hollywood talent and the American actors’ union.

The creation of Tilly Norwood has prompted strong reactions from actors such as Melissa Barrera and Whoopi Goldberg, who expressed concerns over the potential impact of AI-generated performers on the industry. SAG-AFTRA, the union representing actors in the U.S., emphasized that AI creations like Norwood lack the essential human elements that audiences connect with in traditional performances.

In response to the criticism, CEO Eline Van der Velden defended the creation of Tilly Norwood, stating that AI should be viewed as a complementary tool rather than a replacement for human actors. The AI character was introduced in a comedic video called “AI Commissioner” and is part of Van der Velden’s initiative to explore the possibilities of AI in media production.

While some industry figures have shown interest in utilizing AI technology, concerns remain about the ethical and creative implications of incorporating AI-generated performers in films and shows. Despite the growing presence of AI in the entertainment landscape, debates persist about the role of these technologies in shaping the future of storytelling and performance arts.
