If you go by the name Janice and felt offended by Drake’s track “Janice STFU,” you may soon have a chance to receive a personal apology from the renowned rapper. Drake’s team has announced plans for an exclusive event dedicated solely to individuals named Janice.
In an Instagram story, Drake extended invitations to Janices residing in New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Toronto, and Houston for a special gathering on Sunday. The rapper shared a video showing a pile of letters addressed to people named Janice, describing it as a formal apology specifically for the Janices in Toronto.
According to Drake’s representatives, physical invitations have been sent out to Janices in Toronto. Those whose legal first name is Janice and have not received an invitation can still RSVP by contacting JSTFU@DRAKERELATED.COM.
To gain entry to the event, attendees must present government-issued photo identification to verify their legal first name as Janice, without the acceptance of nicknames, middle names, or last names. This initiative stems from Drake’s popular song “Janice STFU” featured on his album “ICEMAN.”
The track made a significant impact by debuting at the top of both the Billboard Global 200 and the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 charts. This achievement marked Drake’s 14th number one hit, surpassing Michael Jackson and setting a new record for the most number one hits by a male solo artist.
“Janice STFU” was part of a surprise triple-album release that included “ICEMAN,” “Habibti,” and “Maid of Honour,” with a total of 42 songs from the albums charting on the Hot 100. The success of the albums propelled “Maid of Honour” and “Habibti” to top positions on the Billboard Global 200 as well.
Drake’s team has confirmed that the exclusive Janices-only apology party in Toronto is scheduled for Sunday, June 28, from 1-4 p.m. ET at the Cactus Club on Adelaide St.
