AFC Toronto’s Marko Milanovic has been honored as the coach of the year in the Northern Super League for his exceptional leadership during the league’s debut season. Milanovic guided Toronto to a remarkable first-place finish in the standings with a commendable 16-6-3 record, accumulating a total of 51 points. This achievement placed Toronto comfortably ahead of its closest rivals, Ottawa Rapid and Vancouver Rise, who both finished with 39 points each.
The prestigious award was determined through a vote among the six NSL coaches, with the stipulation that they could not vote for themselves. This voting process emulated the players’ end-of-year awards, where players cast their votes for fellow athletes.
Toronto stood out in the six-team league by leading in goals scored, tallying an impressive 42 goals, and securing the second position in goals allowed, narrowly trailing behind Montreal.
The upcoming playoffs will see Toronto facing Montreal in the initial leg of the semifinals this Saturday, while Vancouver will host Ottawa in a match scheduled for Tuesday.
Before his tenure at Toronto, Milanovic accumulated over a decade of coaching experience with North Toronto Soccer, where he notably led the team in League1 Ontario. Additionally, he served as an assistant coach at Toronto Metropolitan University.
