Pop singer Sabrina Carpenter has secured a temporary restraining order against an individual who attempted to enter her Los Angeles residence without permission, labeling the incidents as “deeply alarming.” Legal documents obtained by CBC News reveal that Carpenter is pursuing a permanent restraining order against 31-year-old William Applegate.
In a sworn statement, Carpenter detailed that on May 23, Applegate unlawfully entered a neighboring property to breach the security fencing surrounding her home. He then approached her front door and forcibly attempted to gain entry by grabbing the handle. Carpenter described the man’s actions as deliberate, calculated, and aggressive, which she found extremely disturbing and violating.
Carpenter expressed ongoing fear for her safety due to Applegate’s behavior, presenting evidence from Ring security camera footage showing him at her doorstep. She recounted how the man refused to leave even after her security team intervened, fabricating false claims of knowing her personally and being expected.
Following Applegate’s arrest on the initial day of the incident, Carpenter reported that he returned less than 24 hours later and waited outside her residence for an extended period. His persistence continued for two additional days, prompting the Los Angeles police to intervene. Images of Applegate’s vehicle are included in the legal filing.
Security investigations revealed that Applegate had been displaying concerning behavior since at least April 20, 2026, with Carpenter highlighting a troubling escalation over the following month. Detective Peter Doomanis of the Los Angeles Police Department noted in a signed declaration that Applegate had developed an unsettling fixation on Carpenter.
A court order mandates that Applegate must stay a minimum of 100 yards away from Carpenter, her residence, vehicle, workplace, as well as her sister and sister’s boyfriend who reside with her. A follow-up court session is scheduled for June 17, with Applegate also facing a criminal court appearance on June 18 for charges related to criminal trespassing.
