“Trump Pressures ABC: Fire Kimmel Over Melania Joke”

U.S. President Donald Trump demanded the immediate dismissal of Jimmy Kimmel by ABC and its parent company Walt Disney, following a controversial monologue delivered by the late-night talk show host. The segment in question, which parodied the upcoming White House correspondents’ dinner, included remarks about Melania Trump. The Trumps were subsequently evacuated from the dinner due to a shooting incident at the Washington Hilton, where the event was being held.

The suspect involved in the shooting incident was identified as Cole Allen, who fired at Secret Service agents before being subdued and arrested. Despite Kimmel defending his monologue as a light roast about the couple’s age difference and not inciting violence, Melania Trump condemned his remarks as “corrosive.” President Trump echoed her sentiments, calling for Kimmel’s immediate termination.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has initiated early reviews of Disney’s licenses, including ABC stations, citing concerns about diversity practices. While some political figures criticized the FCC’s actions as government censorship, Disney maintained its compliance with FCC regulations and expressed readiness to address the situation through legal channels.

The controversy surrounding Kimmel’s remarks and subsequent suspension has drawn attention to the boundaries of free speech and regulatory actions against media outlets. Despite calls for Kimmel’s dismissal and disruptions in broadcasting his show, the host’s return episode saw significant viewership and online engagement. In response to the backlash, Kimmel issued an apology and reached a contract extension with ABC, extending his tenure through May 2027.
