A surprising incident occurred in Saskatchewan when a fish fell from the sky and shattered a car’s windshield near Turtle Lake. Marie Ahlstrom, the driver, was amazed to see the fish scales imprinted on the windshield but fortunately was unharmed. Initially mistaking it for a rock impact, she later discovered the unusual cause.
The windshield and side mirror of the car were damaged by the falling fish, leading Ahlstrom to file a wildlife collision claim with her insurance. Despite some confusion initially, the claim was eventually processed. While rare, falling fish incidents have been reported in the Turtle Lake region before, often linked to birds like ospreys dropping fish they cannot carry.
Prairie naturalist Trevor Herriot suggested that a bald eagle was likely responsible for dropping the fish, as they are skilled fishers known to engage in such behavior. Another explanation involving a water spout was deemed improbable due to weather conditions. Despite the bizarre nature of the event, Ahlstrom found humor in the situation, reflecting on whether it was an act of wildlife, God, or pure chance.
