Ontario Allocates $75 Million for New Anti-Tariff Ad Campaign Targeting Republican Audience in the U.S.

The province of Ontario has committed $75 million towards a fresh anti-tariff advertising initiative in the United States, specifically geared towards Republican voters. The ad features a recording of former U.S. president Ronald Reagan from 1987 discussing the inefficacy of tariffs in the long run.

Premier Doug Ford, a staunch admirer of Reagan, believes that the familiarity of the former president among Republicans will help deliver the message that tariffs ultimately harm Americans. Scheduled to debut this week, the advertisement is set to run on Newsmax and Bloomberg initially. Subsequently, it will be broadcast on a range of prominent networks over the following two weeks, including Fox News, Fox Sports, NBC, CBS, CNBC, ESPN, and ABC, as well as their respective local affiliates. Additionally, the ad will be featured on Comcast, Spectrum, and Sinclair Group’s local stations.

This latest campaign is not the first anti-tariff effort from the Ontario government to air in the U.S., with previous ads emphasizing the enduring relationship between Canada, Ontario, and their southern neighbor.
