Hyundai Issues Safety Recall for Elantra Hybrids

Hyundai Canada has announced a safety recall for certain 2024–2026 Elantra Hybrid models due to a potential fire hazard. The recall affects 6,082 vehicles in Canada, as confirmed by Hyundai. According to Hyundai spokesperson Nitish Bissonauth, there have been no reported incidents, injuries, or fatalities related to this issue in Canada.

In the United States, 54,337 cars have also been recalled by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for the same issue. The problem is linked to a malfunction in the hybrid power control unit, which may result in overheating, leading to a “no start” condition or reduced power mode in the majority of cases. In more severe instances, overheating could escalate the risk of a fire.

Hyundai plans to inform all affected drivers and will conduct a complimentary software update to rectify the overheating issue.
