Legendary rock band Rush has teased a “special” surprise planned for the 2026 Juno Awards set to take place in Hamilton this Sunday. In a recent newsletter to fans, the band hinted at a unique moment to be shared with Geddy & Alex, urging followers to grab tickets for the Junos on March 29.
Last autumn, Rush’s Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson disclosed their upcoming 2026 tour. This tour will feature the band’s first public performance alongside Anika Nilles, who stepped in as the replacement for the late drummer Neil Peart, who passed away from brain cancer in 2020. Nilles, a talented German drummer known for her popular YouTube presence, had previously toured with Jeff Beck in 2022.
Geddy Lee praised Nilles in a 2023 interview with the Guardian, commending her performance during the last Jeff Beck tour. While Rush did not divulge more details, a potential appearance at the Junos would offer fans a sneak peek at the current lineup before the start of their world tour.
Named Fifty Something, the tour is slated to commence in Los Angeles in June, featuring four shows at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto in August, as well as stops in Vancouver and Edmonton in December.
Established in Toronto in 1968, Rush debuted with their self-titled album in 1974. The band has since released a total of 19 studio albums, including numerous gold, platinum, and multi-platinum records. Recently, on March 13, Rush unveiled the Grace Under Pressure: Super Deluxe box set, highlighting their iconic 1984 concert at Toronto’s Maple Leaf Gardens.
Over the years, Rush has garnered significant recognition, winning their first Juno for most promising group in 1975, and consecutive group of the year awards in ’78 and ’79. The band has accumulated a total of 10 Juno Awards, including the inaugural award for best hard rock/metal album in 1991 for their 13th album, Presto.
CBC Music has attempted to reach out to Rush for additional comments on the matter.
