Montreal’s rising tennis star, Felix Auger-Aliassime, advanced to the quarterfinals of the European Open in Brussels after a hard-fought victory against Damir Dzumhur of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Auger-Aliassime, the second seed in the tournament, showcased his dominance by out-acing Dzumhur 22-0 and creating 14 break-point opportunities during the match.

Despite Auger-Aliassime’s strong performance, Dzumhur managed to defend against 13 break points and capitalized on the limited chances he had. In a tense third set, Auger-Aliassime had a double-break point advantage in the 10th game, which could have sealed the match, but Dzumhur fought back to save three match points and level the set at 5-5.

In the deciding tiebreak, Dzumhur initially took a 4-3 lead, but Auger-Aliassime rallied to win four of the next five points, securing the victory. The 25-year-old, currently ranked 13th in the world, is set to face American qualifier Eliot Spizzirri in the quarterfinals of the ATP 250 hardcourt event.

This match marked the second encounter between Auger-Aliassime and Dzumhur at the ATP Tour level, with their previous meeting in 2020 resulting in Auger-Aliassime’s victory in the first round at Montpellier, France.
