Author Rachel Reid has announced a delay in the release of her upcoming hockey romance novel, “Unrivaled,” due to the challenges of sudden fame and the progression of her Parkinson’s disease symptoms. Originally scheduled for this fall, the book is now expected to hit shelves in June 2027.
“Unrivaled” will mark the seventh installment in Reid’s popular “Game Changer” series, focusing on the hockey rivalry and secret romance between Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov. The first two books, “Heated Rivalry” and “The Long Game,” served as the inspiration for the hit Crave original series featuring Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie.
In a recent Instagram video message, Reid expressed the impact of recent life changes on her writing schedule, stating, “My life has undergone significant changes lately, and while positive, it has limited my writing time. Ensuring that ‘Unrivaled’ is of the highest quality is my top priority.”
Acknowledging the challenges she faces, Reid shared, “Sometimes, along with blessings, challenges arise to maintain balance.” She revealed that her Parkinson’s symptoms have worsened, slowing down her writing process physically. Reid first learned of her Parkinson’s diagnosis in 2023, coinciding with director Jacob Tierney’s interest in adapting her works.
Tierney’s adaptation of Reid’s novels has been well-received, with a second season renewal on Crave and HBO Max, where it ranked as the top series during its debut season. Despite the setbacks, Reid remains committed to delivering a compelling addition to her beloved series.
