“No Federal Agents: Trump Halts Plans for San Francisco Deployment”

Donald Trump and San Francisco’s mayor have confirmed that there will be no deployment of federal agents to the city. This unexpected decision comes amid Trump’s push for Democratic-led cities to enhance their efforts in combating crime and illegal immigration.

San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie, a Democrat, revealed that Trump personally informed him of the cancellation of any plans for a federal deployment during a conversation on Wednesday night. Lurie emphasized that while the city will continue collaborating with federal agencies to address drug-related crimes, the use of “militarized immigration enforcement” is not deemed beneficial.

In a social media post on Truth Social, Trump acknowledged the agreement, stating that the federal government had been preparing for a surge in San Francisco but had now halted those plans. He mentioned that after a discussion with Mayor Lurie, who requested an opportunity to improve the situation, the decision was made to give the city a chance to address crime issues.

Trump also highlighted that prominent tech executives, including Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff, expressed optimism about San Francisco’s future. Trump had previously hinted at sending National Guard troops to various Democratic-led cities, a move that faced legal challenges.

Despite these developments, a small number of U.S. Border Patrol vehicles arrived at a U.S. Coast Guard base in the Bay Area, triggering protests from hundreds of demonstrators. The protesters held signs with messages such as “Stop the kidnappings” and “Protect our neighbors,” with one protester reportedly getting injured by a projectile.

Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee criticized the potential federal deployment, emphasizing that it would create division and intimidation within the community. Trump’s immigration policies targeting undocumented immigrants have faced opposition from Democrats, who argue that these measures have instilled fear among law-abiding residents, led to family separations, and negatively impacted businesses.

Trump’s prior focus on the perceived high crime rates in San Francisco had raised concerns about a federal intervention in the city. However, following discussions between the president and the mayor, the decision not to deploy federal agents has been confirmed.
