Share

Longueuil authorities are seeking the individual responsible for abandoning a newborn infant on a doorstep late Sunday night around 11 p.m. According to reports, the individual rang the doorbell before quickly leaving the scene. The occupants of the residence on Bourgeoys Street promptly contacted emergency services upon discovering the swaddled newborn with its umbilical cord still attached.

Upon arrival, police and paramedics provided immediate care to the baby before transporting it to a nearby hospital, where it was confirmed to be in good health. Mélanie Mercille, a spokesperson for the Longueuil Police Service (SPAL), mentioned that the baby was born prematurely at 34 weeks.

Following tips from the public, investigators have initiated searches in Marguerite Bourgeoys Park, adjacent to the location where the infant was discovered. The park has been closed to the public as part of the ongoing investigation.

Mercille declined to reveal the identity of the individual who abandoned the baby, emphasizing the rarity of such cases in her extensive 17-year law enforcement career. Authorities plan to canvass the neighborhood on Monday to identify any potential surveillance footage that could aid in locating the infant’s parents. Additionally, forensic analyses will be conducted to track down the person responsible for leaving the child on the doorstep.
