Deborah Cox and Rufus Wainwright have been announced as the performers for the rendition of “O Canada” at the upcoming World Series games over the next two evenings.
Cox, a renowned Canadian R&B and soul artist with four Juno awards under her belt, will take the stage tonight before Game 4 of the series. Following their victory in Game 1, the Toronto Blue Jays faced defeats in Games 2 and 3 against the Los Angeles Dodgers, leading to the upcoming matches in L.A.
On the other hand, Wainwright, a prominent figure in contemporary pop and classical music spheres, is scheduled to perform the Canadian national anthem on October 29. With multiple Juno awards and a Grammy nomination to his name, Wainwright is celebrated for his notable works such as the self-titled 1998 debut album, 2001’s “Poses,” and the 2009 opera “Prima Donna.”
During Game 3, singer-songwriter JP Saxe rendered the Canadian anthem, while Alessia Cara graced Game 2 and Pharrell Williams, accompanied by Voices of Fire, performed at Game 1. Additionally, Williams and the gospel choir presented the American national anthem during the series opener.
For the American side, R&B and electronic artist Tinashe has been selected to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the commencement of Game 4, while former Disney star Sofia Carson will perform at Game 5. Notably, country star Brad Paisley and pop singer Bebe Rexha entertained the audience at the preceding games.
Apart from the World Series engagements, Wainwright is slated to participate in the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame Légendes induction ceremony in Montreal on November 17, alongside his sister, Martha. Meanwhile, Cox, who was recently inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame at the 2022 Juno Awards, is gearing up for a tour in November, with stops planned in the Bahamas, New York, and Bethesda, Maryland.
