All 24 schoolgirls who were kidnapped by armed attackers from a school in Kebbi, northwestern Nigeria last week have been successfully rescued, as announced by the president of Nigeria on Tuesday. The abduction occurred on November 17, with initial reports stating 25 girls were taken; however, President Bola Tinubu confirmed that all 24 abducted students have been rescued. Specific details regarding the rescue operation were not disclosed.

President Tinubu emphasized the importance of deploying additional security forces in vulnerable regions to prevent future incidents of kidnapping. The recent abduction in Kebbi adds to a series of mass kidnappings in Nigeria, with another attack occurring at a Catholic school in north-central Niger state where over 300 students and staff were abducted. Fortunately, fifty students managed to escape over the weekend.

The continuous wave of mass kidnappings in Nigeria has raised concerns and led to school closures, highlighting the need for enhanced security measures and government action to address the escalating crisis.
